Barnes selects Michelle Obama for Vice-President

BLOCK Party candidate Ron Barnes has chosen First Lady Michelle Obama to be his running mate. "Michelle is quite possibly the finest First Lady ever to grace the White House", Barnes said.

Barnes cited her efforts to promote women's rights, support military families and reduce the rate of childhood obesity. He also expressed his admiration for the discipline she has instilled in the First Family. "Everybody knows that if the girls came home drunk or pregnant or if Barack got too friendly with an intern, she would kill them without batting an eye."
My Fellow Americans

This is turning out to be an interesting election season. Judging from recent polling, the favorite Presidential candidate seems to be "None of the above". In one of my previous campaigns, I proposed a Constitutional amendment which would require every election to add an option to vote for "None of the above" to each slate of candidates. It now seems that I was ahead of my time. We are now faced with a choice between a carnival barker who treats the election like a reality show and a woman who doesn't know how to keep a secret. I can understand why many people are considering voting for one of the third party candidates.

There is just one thing wrong with this line of thinking. It's called the 12th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. The 12th Amendment states that "The person having the greatest Number of (Electoral College) votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed; and if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the President". In other words, if no candidate gets a majority of votes in the Electoral College (which by the way has no Constitutional obligation to vote for the person they were elected to vote for), the House of Representatives gets to choose the next President of the United States. Given the political configuration of the current House of Representatives, they would obviously send Donald Trump to the White House. So your vote for the Libertarian Party, the Green Party or one of the other alternatives may turn out to be a vote for Donald Trump.

This is not some wild drug-induced fantasy. This actually happened in the Presidential election of 1824. There were four candidates for President and none of them won a majority of the Electoral College votes. Although Andrew Jackson won the most popular votes and the most Electoral College votes, the House of Representatives elected John Quincy Adams to be President of the United States. Given the amount of discontent we have seen with the Democratic and Republican choices, it is entirely possible that we could see the same thing happen in this election. I wonder if the "Occupy Wall Street" people would put together an "Occupy the White House" demonstration if Trump was elected by the House of Representatives. Of course it would only last until they sobered up and went home but it might be good for a news cycle or two.

I am also deeply concerned about the "Black Lives Matter" movement. Although they have a legitimate complaint about the abuse of power and needless killing of unarmed citizens, these people have got to have the worst public relations program on the face of the planet. Of course black lives matter. White lives matter. Native American lives matter. Asian lives matter. We are all precious children of the same Father. does the Bible not tell us "Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows". He wasn't just talking about white people or Republicans. Trust me on this.

The problem with this movement is not that black lives don't matter. Of course they do. We have all seen the pictures of black mothers grieving over their murdered children. The real problem is the attitude promoted by self-seeking politicians that it's "us" against "them". It doesn't matter whether "them" refers to African-Americans, Latinos or Muslims or whoever. Divide and conquer has always been an effective military and political strategy. There is no "them". There is only "us". As long as we continue to treat certain members of our communities as "them", we will continue to be easy pickings for those who would divide us to serve their own selfish agendas. And we will continue to see atrocities like the ones committed at Columbine, Sandy Hook, Aurora, San Bernadino, Dallas and far too many others.
